Newly qualified inspectors give added assurance to racking inspections.

May 06, 2005

14 safety experts from Storage Equipment Safety Service Ltd (SESS) have recently qualified as SEMA Approved Rack Inspectors. This outstanding achievement gives added assurance about the company’s ability to make sure clients meet Health and Safety rules.

SEMA has developed the Approved Rack Inspector scheme to give peace-of-mind about the knowledge and skills of inspectors. To become Approved Rack Inspectors, the 14 staff had to take an intensive three-day training course. This was followed by a written examination and challenging practical assessments.

The newly qualified Rack Inspectors will also keep themselves fully up-to-date with legislation and current best practice. Continuing Professional Development is an essential part of the SEMA qualification.

Philip Pinel, Managing Director of Storage Equipment Safety Service, says, ‘The qualification of 14 of our safety experts as SEMA Approved Rack Inspectors brings great credit to them. It is a excellent sign of the professional standards that we expect throughout our company.’

He adds, ‘Warehouse managers claim that safety is their priority. So when it comes to annual or bi-annual inspections of racking, we believe that many of them will prefer SEMA Approved Rack Inspectors. SEMA approval gives added assurance about quality and professionalism. It also sends out the signal that there will be no compromise on safety standards.’

Warehouse management are increasingly aware of what would happen if there was a racking incident or collapse. Damage and disruption would be costly. But even more serious, there could be legal consequences. Safety laws are making professional inspections ever more important

Philip Pinel says, ‘Our safety service helps clients meet both current health and safety regulations and the SEMA/FEM Codes and Guidelines. As we continue to grow our team, we expect more of our safety experts to gain qualifications as SEMA Approved Racking Inspectors.’
